I am a Professor of Information Systems with a focus on Process Mining and Business Process Management (BPM). I work in the School of Computing and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne, Australia, where I lead the Information Systems (IS) Group, the BPM Research Team and the BPM Professional Education arm within.

I am also the CEO and Co-Founder of Apromore Pty Ltd, a spinoff of the University of Melbourne aimed at democratizing process mining through the development of Apromore, a leading-edge open-source platform for process analytics. Apromore is the result of over ten years of research and innovation at the University of Melbourne and several other research labs in Australia and Europe, leading to significant uptake in practice.

At the University of Melbourne, I served as Deputy Head of School for Engagement, and before that as Academic Director for Engagement, in the period 2018-20. Before joining Melbourne University, I was a Professor in the Information Systems School at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, where I led the BPM Discipline (2016-17) and served as the Academic Director for corporate engagements (2012-17). I was also the recipient of an IS Research Fellowship from the University of Liechtenstein (2012-14) and held a part-time Principal Researcher position at NICTA, now Data61 (2012-15).

I have published over 150 papers on BPM, process mining and related topics. My research has attracted eight awards and over AUD 28M in research income, much of this through competitive grant schemes. In 2020, I was recognised by The Australian as the most cited Australian academic in the field of Databases & Information Systems. My research is showcased in public repositories such as Google Scholar, UoM Minerva Access, arXiv, ResearchGate and QUT ePrints, and on my UoM Find an Expert profile.

I have taught BPM and process mining to thousands of practitioners and students in Australia and overseas for over 15 years. Based on this experience, I co-authored the textbook "Fundamentals of Business Process Management" (Springer, 2nd edition), which is used in over 250 universities and available at over 400 academic libraries worldwide and has been translated to German, Greek, Spanish and Persian. I have also led the development of a MOOC series on BPM which has attracted over 25,000 participants.
