    • Professor G Neil Martin is Head of Programmes: Psychology at Regents University London. He is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the author of over 13 books on psychology and the brain, including the UK’s market-leading introductory text, Psychology (Pearson Education, 2014) now in its 5th edition, and The Neuropsychology of Smell and Taste (published by Psychology Press, 2013); co-author of Europe’s  first customisable on-line course in introductory psychology, MyPsychLab (Pearson Education); and contributor  of the neuroanatomy of flavour entry to the 2nd edition of The Oxford Companion to Food.

      He researches in the areas of the psychology of smell and taste and previously directed the Human Olfaction Laboratory at Middlesex University. He has written over 150 academic and popular articles on psychology and has been Secretary of the British Psychophysiology Society, Associate Editor of The Psychologist, Assistant Editor of Deadpan ( the UK’s first magazine

      dedicated to comedy), scientific assessor for the Chinese government, panel reviewer for the Wellcome Arts Awards, and the SciArts awards (Wellcome Trust),  grant reviewer for the BBSRC and ESRC and others, and is an editorial board member of the Annals of Improbable Research, the organisation which awards the annual IgNobel prizes.

      He has given invited lectures and talks to the Royal Institution, the RSA,  London International Confectioners Society, and  the Institute of Cultural Research.

      He acts as consultant to business and the media on topics related to the psychology of smell and taste. Clients have included BBC Good Food Magazine, Firminisch, Unilever, Allyn & Bacon and Lever Brothers.
